The Central Region is one of Ghana's ten administrative regions. It is bordered by the Ashanti and Eastern regions to the north, Western region to the west, Greater Accra region to the east, and to the south by the Atlantic Ocean. The total population of the region is estimated at about 1,593,823 constituting 8.4 per cent  of the country’s total population. The region boasts of a number of tourist attractions, such as the Canopy walk in the Kakum National Park. Trading, catering and hotel businesses are therefore important economic activity. In addition to this the fishing and agriculture are the other dominant sources of economic activity. The major ethnic groups in the Central region are Fante, followed by Agona.
