Ghana Expertise Brong Ahafo Region
The Brong-Ahafo Region is located in mid-western Ghana, between the Ashanti Region and the Côte d'Ivoire border. Its capital is Sunyani. The 2000 population census estimated the region’s population at 1,815,408, representing roughly 9.6 of the country’s population. Agriculture is the predominant occupation in the region employing about 80 per cent of the labour force. About 6.7 per cent of the labour force is also engaged in the service industries of trade catering and hotel business, 5 per cent in manufacturing, and 6.5 per cent in the utilities industry, health, education, community and personal services sector. Brong Ahafo region contains many cultural and wildlife attractions, but it is less known to tourists than the Ashanti, Northern, Central, or Greater Accra Regions. Major attractions of the Brong-Ahafo Region include Kintampo, with its beautiful falls and Prayer Park, and Fiema, home of the Boabeng Monkey Sanctuary. The largest ethnical group in this region is the Boron. |
